This 860 square feet home, in three buildings, was designed for my parents.  They requested separate buildings, extensive use of recycled materials, taking full advantage of solar, and a strong relationship between indoors and out.  We planned, from the early stages of design, a system to capture the roof water, directing it to a stream and pond, with overflow into a wetland created for aquifer recharge.  At the earliest design stages the home’s relationship to the land and the future garden was fully considered.
